Useful information that can make your stay at the student home easier.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT CLEANING
Cleaning Information
A cleaning company comes every Tuesday and Thursday to clean floors in shared kitchens, hallways, and toilets in common areas. If you place chairs on tables and remove items from the floor, you make the cleaners’ job easier (they are not allowed to move personal belongings), and the areas will be cleaned more thoroughly. Rugs outside doors in hallways are not permitted, nor are drying racks or similar items.
Shared Kitchens
- Always use baking paper in the oven, and remember to replace it when it starts to burn.
- Spices, oils, and food must not be stored on kitchen counters or tables.
- Keep your refrigerator organized. Throw away old food and clean up spills.
- Empty the trash when it is full. Follow the waste sorting instructions.
- Drying racks must not be placed in kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, or other shared areas.
Studentinord’s cleaning staff carry out kitchen inspections on Wednesdays from 09:00. Written feedback will be posted on the notice board found in all shared kitchens.
Each week, the cleaning department also performs scheduled cleaning tasks in the kitchen, with a different task every week. This is done to maintain and extend the lifespan of our facilities.
Each week, one resident is assigned responsibility for certain tasks. If you are away during your assigned week, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another resident and notify your partner. Some rooms may also be vacant, but it remains a shared responsibility to keep the kitchen clean.
In the student laundry room, you will find mop handles, mops, cleaning cloths, and trash bags. Remember to return used equipment.
To ensure a pleasant living environment for everyone in student housing, all residents must contribute. Even though there is a rotating responsibility list, everyone is expected to help maintain general order throughout the week.
Tasks for the Assigned Cleaning Week:
- Clean and wipe down the kitchen counter. It must be free of crumbs and grease.
- Clean the sink thoroughly. No food scraps should be left behind.
- Empty the trash, and keep trash bins and cabinets clean. Take the garbage directly outside — do not leave it in hallways, by doors, etc.
- Clean the stove inside, on top, and outside. Also clean the oven door. Remove burnt-on food.
- Scrub baking trays and oven racks to remove burnt-on food.
- Clean the stovetop and the wall behind it.
- Wipe down kitchen cabinet fronts and refrigerator surfaces.
- Clean the microwave ovens.
- Pick up and return cloths and mops from the student cleaning supply closet located on each floor.
- Return bottles and cans for deposit. Deposits that are not handled will be removed by Studentinord.
- Sweep or mop the kitchen floor to remove crumbs and other cooking-related messes.
Information About Shared Kitchen Inventory
All shared kitchens are equipped with basic items needed for everyday use. If you want additional equipment, you must provide it yourself.
Kitchens are inspected and restocked with missing equipment every summer. In January, we inspect cutting boards, pots, and frying pans and replace them if necessary. Missing, lost, or broken equipment will not be replaced during the rest of the year.
Cleaning Supplies
At the start of each academic year in August, we provide a starter kit with cleaning supplies in every shared kitchen. After that, residents are responsible for purchasing supplies themselves.
The kit contains:
- Dish soap
- Dishwasher tablets
- Dish brush
- Sponges
- Hand soap
- Scraper
- Steel wool
- Dish towels
- Cleaning cloths
Private Room / Apartment
Cleaning of your own room or apartment is the responsibility of each resident, and you must provide your own cleaning equipment.
Cleaning Information / Rules for the Shared Lounge
If you use or rent the shared lounge, you must clean it after use. We recommend taking pictures of the lounge before use if it has not been cleaned prior to your rental.
The person using the shared area is responsible for ensuring that the rules are followed and that the room is completely cleaned and tidied no later than 12:00 noon the following day. If the lounge is not cleaned by 12:00, you will be charged for the time required for cleaning. Failure to comply may result in losing the right to use shared areas.
- Quiet hours begin at 24:00 on weekends and 23:00 on weekdays.
- To have exclusive use of the shared lounge during the rental period, there must be at least 10 people present. If there are fewer than 10 people, all residents in the building may use the area.
- Those using the shared lounge are responsible for cleaning and tidying it.
- Trash must be removed before leaving the room, and cleaning must be completed by 12:00 noon the following day. Hallways, shared toilets, and elevators must also be cleaned if necessary.
- All furniture and equipment used must be cleaned and returned to their original place after use. The student who booked the shared area is responsible for ensuring it looks the same as in the photos when leaving.
- Cleaning equipment for cleaning the lounge after use can be found in the student laundry room.
Moving In
When you move in, you must inspect the housing unit carefully. If you discover major faults, damages, or other issues, you must create a report in the app. Describe the issue and attach photos if possible. This will be stored as documentation for both you as the tenant and us as the landlord.
If you move into a furnished room, the bed should include a mattress topper and a mattress protector sheet.
Internal Housing Transfer
If you are changing housing units internally, you must book a pre-inspection through the app. The inspection will take place as close to the moving date as possible, so book well in advance.
Before the inspection, you must clean as thoroughly as possible. These inspections are carried out to detect and prevent the spread of pests.
You will not receive access to the new housing unit until the pre-inspection has been completed. If the inspection is approved, you will gain access to the new unit.
If the cleaning is insufficient, you must arrange a move-out inspection with the inspector or through the app. This inspection will take place after you move out of the old unit.
If pests such as bedbugs are discovered, measures will be taken before you are allowed to move to a new unit.
Moving Out
When moving out of Studentinord housing, you must book a move-out inspection. The inspection should take place as close to the move-out date as possible.
Keep in mind that many residents move out during Christmas and summer, so book early.
This is done through the app.
If you leave the housing unit without completing a move-out inspection and the cleaning is not satisfactory, you will be charged for the time required for cleaning. See the price list and fees.
If your inspection is not approved and you still choose not to correct the issues, the same rules apply as for not booking an inspection.
If your inspection is approved, you may leave the housing unit with peace of mind.
Set aside enough time to empty and clean the housing unit according to the following checklist:
- Dust lamps and shelves, and remove stains
- Clean the inside and outside of wardrobes, including the top of the wardrobe
- Wash walls, doors, door frames, windows, and window frames
- Wipe down and vacuum furniture and beds
- Scrub bathroom tiles and walls thoroughly
- Clean sinks and toilets thoroughly
- Clean mirrors
- Clean and organize the kitchen, appliances, and equipment. Kitchen cabinets assigned to you must be cleaned thoroughly. The kitchen fan and filter must also be cleaned.
- Empty the refrigerator and freezer of your food
- Wash floors and baseboards
- If you have a storage room, it must also be emptied and cleaned
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Internet
All student homes have wireless internet with a gigabit line 1000/1000. You get a password for your Wifi network by registering on this page, after you have moved in. You will be asked to provide a MAC address, which can be found at the internet central (home gateway) inside your home. After your registration, you will receive an SMS from Altibox with your username and password - no later than two working days.
Please note! This text message is only sent out in Norwegian, but look for "Altibox####" - which is the name of your Wifi, and "passord: ****" - which is your password.
Contact NTE's customer center on tel. +47 74 15 02 00 if you experience problems. If NTE can’t help you, you can contact the Housing office.
LAUNDRY
You can do your laundry at the Student home's common laundry between 8am and 10pm.
It is easy to book and pay for laundry with Appwash. Here you can read about how to proceed.
TIP: It is a good idea to set an alarm on your phone a few minutes before your laundry is done. This way, you can avoid unnecessary queues at the washing machines. If you're there when your laundry finishes, the next user won't have to empty the machine for you, and you'll have full control over your clothes.
USE A TUMBLE DRYER
A regular laundry contains 2-3 liters of water. This means that if you hang the laundry to dry in the apartment, without venting well, this can cause mites and bacteria. We recommend using a dryer as long as it is possible.
If you have no other option than to hang the laundry inside your home, it is important that you ventilate well.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A PARTY
If you wish to invite someone to a party in a common area, you must clear this with the other residents in advance.
Show consideration and respect for others belongings, kitchen cabinets and refrigerators.
Remember that there are noise restrictions in the building after 11 p.m. on weekdays, and after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The common area must be tidied and cleaned no later than 12 noon on the following day, and don`t forget to clean the floor as well. The resident who invites people to the party is responsible for the cleaning.

TALK TO YOUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THE SOCIAL LIFE AT THE STUDENT HOME
One of the students at your housing facility is elected as a representative for the shared kitchen, the floor or the building. The representative can also bring up cases regarding the social life at the student home with Studentinord.
You should find posters with contact info to your housing representative at the student home. If not, or if you have questions regarding this arrangement, you can contact Studentinord at bomiljo@studentinord.no.
