IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT CLEANING
Cleaning Information
On Mondays and Thursdays, a cleaning company cleans the floors in shared kitchens, corridors, and shared bathrooms. Rugs are not permitted outside doors in corridors, nor are drying racks or similar items.
In Shared Kitchens
- Always use baking paper in the oven, and remember to replace it when it becomes burnt.
- Spices, oils, and food must not be stored on kitchen counters or tables.
- Keep your refrigerator space organized. Throw away old food and clean up spills.
- Empty the trash when it is full. Follow the waste sorting instructions.
- Drying racks must not be placed in kitchens, corridors, bathrooms, or other shared areas.
Studentinord’s cleaning staff carry out kitchen inspections on Mondays and Thursdays from 09:00. Written feedback will be posted on the notice board found in every shared kitchen.
Each week, one resident is responsible for certain tasks. If you are absent during your assigned week, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another resident and notify your cleaning partner.
On the days when the cleaning company comes, please place chairs up and remove items from the floor. This makes the cleaners’ work easier (they are not allowed to move items) and results in a cleaner kitchen.
Every week, the cleaning department also performs periodic maintenance cleaning in the kitchens, with a different task each week. This is done to maintain and extend the lifespan of our facilities.
To ensure a pleasant living environment for everyone in student housing, all residents must contribute. Everyone is expected to help maintain general order throughout the week, even though there is a rotating responsibility schedule.
Tasks for the Weekly Responsible Resident
- Tidy and clean the kitchen counter. It should be free of crumbs and grease.
- Clean the sink. No food waste should be left in it.
- Empty the trash and keep trash bins and cabinets clean. Take trash directly outside — do not leave it in corridors or by doors.
- Clean the stove inside, on top, and outside. Also clean the oven door. Remove burnt food residue.
- Scrub baking trays and oven racks to remove burnt food.
- Clean the stovetop and the wall behind it.
- Wipe kitchen cabinet fronts and refrigerator surfaces.
- Clean microwave ovens.
- Pick up and return cloths in the student cleaning supply closet located in the basement of both buildings.
- Return bottles and cans for recycling deposits. Deposits not handled by residents will be removed by Studentinord.
- Sweep or mop the kitchen floor to remove crumbs and food spills.
Information About Shared Kitchen Equipment
All shared kitchens are equipped with basic everyday necessities. If you require additional equipment, you must provide it yourself. Kitchens are inspected and restocked with missing equipment every summer, and in January we check cutting boards, pots, and frying pans and replace them if necessary. Missing, broken, or lost equipment will not otherwise be replaced during the year.
Cleaning Supplies
At the beginning of each academic year in August, we provide a starter kit of cleaning supplies for each shared kitchen. After this, residents are responsible for purchasing their own supplies. The starter kit contains:
- Dish soap
- Dishwasher tablets
- Dish brush
- Sponges
- Hand soap
- Scraper
- Steel wool
- Kitchen towels
- Cleaning cloths
Please note that kitchen towels and cleaning cloths must be picked up and returned at the student laundry room located on the first floor. The cleaning department washes these items, but they will not be cleaned if left in the kitchen. In the student laundry room, you will also find garbage bags for shared kitchens and a step ladder if needed.
Private Room / Apartment
Cleaning of your private room or apartment is the responsibility of each resident, and you must provide your own cleaning equipment.
Cleaning Information / Rules for the Shared Lounge on the 4th Floor
If you use or rent the shared lounge, you must clean it afterward. We recommend taking photos of the lounge before use if it has not been cleaned prior to your booking. The person booking the shared area is responsible for ensuring that the rules are followed and that the room is fully cleaned and tidied by 12:00 the following day. If the lounge is not cleaned by 12:00 after use, you will be invoiced for the time spent cleaning. Failure to comply may result in losing the right to book shared areas. You will find mops and cloths in the student laundry room for cleaning the lounge after use.
Rules for the Shared Lounge:
- Quiet hours begin at 24:00 on weekends and 23:00 on weekdays.
- To reserve the entire lounge exclusively, there must be at least 10 people attending. If fewer than 10 people are present, all residents in the building may use the area.
- The person booking the lounge is responsible for cleaning and tidying it afterward.
- Trash must be removed before leaving, and the room must be cleaned by 12:00 the following day. Corridors, shared toilets, and elevators must also be cleaned if necessary.
- All furniture and equipment used must be cleaned and returned to its original place. The student who booked the lounge is responsible for ensuring it looks as shown in the reference photos when leaving.
- All reservations must be made through the “Reddel” app. You may book the room once per month.
Moving In
When you move in, you must thoroughly inspect the accommodation. If you discover major defects, damage, or other issues, you must create a report in the app. Describe the issue and attach photos if possible. This will be stored as documentation for both you as the tenant and us as the landlord. If you have moved into a furnished room, the bed should include a mattress topper and a mattress protector sheet.
Moving Out
When moving out of Studentinord housing, you must book a move-out inspection. The inspection should take place as close to your move-out date as possible. Please remember that many tenants move out during Christmas and summer, so book well in advance.
This is done through the app.
If you leave the accommodation without completing a move-out inspection and the cleaning is not satisfactory, you will be invoiced for the time spent cleaning. See the price list and fees.
If your inspection is not approved and you still choose not to correct the issues or deficiencies, the same rules apply as for not booking an inspection.
If you receive an approved inspection, you may leave the accommodation with peace of mind.
Please allow sufficient time to empty and clean the accommodation according to the following checklist:
- Dust lamps and shelves, and remove stains
- Clean the inside and outside of wardrobes, including the top of the wardrobe
- Clean walls, doors and door frames, windows, and window frames
- Wipe down and vacuum furniture and beds
- Scrub bathroom tiles and walls thoroughly
- Clean sinks and toilets thoroughly
- Clean mirrors
- Clean and tidy the kitchen, appliances, and equipment. Kitchen cabinets assigned to you must be cleaned thoroughly. The kitchen fan and filter must also be cleaned
- Empty the refrigerator and freezer of your food
- Wash floors and skirting boards
- If you have a storage unit, it must be emptied and cleaned
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Internet
All student homes have wireless internet with a gigabit line 1000/1000. You get a password for your Wifi network by registering on this page, after you have moved in. You will be asked to provide a MAC address, which can be found at the internet central (home gateway) inside your home. After your registration, you will receive an SMS from Altibox with your username and password - no later than two working days.
Please note! This text message is only sent out in Norwegian, but look for "Altibox####" - which is the name of your Wifi, and "passord: ****" - which is your password.
Contact NTE's customer center on tel. +47 74 15 02 00 if you experience problems. If NTE can’t help you, you can contact the Housing office.
LAUNDRY
When you move in you will get a laundry chip that can be used in the shared laundry. With the laundry chip you also get your username and password to a portal where you can reserve washing machines and transfer money to your laundry account. The laundry is available between 8am and 10pm.
TIP: It is a good idea to set an alarm on your phone a few minutes before your laundry is done. This way, you can avoid unnecessary queues at the washing machines. If you're there when your laundry finishes, the next user won't have to empty the machine for you, and you'll have full control over your clothes.
To use a washing machine costs 25 kr per wash. To use a tumble dryer is for free. The amount is withdrawn from your laundry account every time you start a washing machine or dryer.
If you should lose your laundry chip it is important to notify us so that we can block the chip and prepare a new one.
A reservation is valid until 15 minutes after the reserved time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the reserved time, other tenants may use the washing machine. It is only the washing machines that can be booked, not the tumble dryers.
You can also book a washing machine directly in the laundry, or use washing machines that are available in the laundry without booking.
TIP: Tick off for «forbli innlogget» (stay logged in) and the system will remember you next time. You can get SMS notifications to remind you of a booking, or when a weashing machine or tumble dryer programme is finished. SMS notifications can be activated in the laundry or in the web portal. The service is for free.
USE A TUMBLE DRYER
A regular laundry contains 2-3 liters of water. This means that if you hang the laundry to dry in the apartment, without venting well, this can cause mites and bacteria. We recommend using a dryer as long as it is possible.
If you have no other option than to hang the laundry inside your home, it is important that you ventilate well.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A PARTY
If you wish to invite someone to a party in a common area, you must clear this with the other residents in advance.
Show consideration and respect for others belongings, kitchen cabinets and refrigerators.
Remember that there are noise restrictions in the building after 11 p.m. on weekdays, and after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The common area must be tidied and cleaned no later than 12 noon on the following day, and don`t forget to clean the floor as well. The resident who invites people to the party is responsible for the cleaning.

TALK TO YOUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THE SOCIAL LIFE AT THE STUDENT HOME
One of the students at your housing facility is elected as a representative for the shared kitchen, the floor or the building. The representative work for a good social environment, and can initiative various social events and activities. The representative can also bring up cases regarding the social life at the student home with Studentinord.
You should find posters with contact info to your housing representative at the student home. If not, or if you have questions regarding this arrangement, you can contact Studentinord at bomiljo@studentinord.no.
Here you find good pieces of advice for building a nice social environment where you live.
