Fire alarms

There are smoke detectors near all units. A smoke detector will warn residents if a fire is about to start. All smoke detectors are routinely tested by our janitors.

The detectors make a short sound signal when the batteries need to be changed. If you notice this, please notify Studentinord.

Fire-fighting equipment

All residents must make sure they know where fire-fighting equipment is located and how to use it. The following equipment is available:

  • Water hoses in lockers marked BRANNSLANGE.

  • Fire extinguishers in the halls

Preventing fire

  • Do not smoke or use naked flames in storage rooms and closets.
  • Never leave a burning candle.
  • Make sure all storage and use of flammable liquids is carried out in a secure manner.
  • If cooking oil, fat or a fondue pot starts burning, put out the fire by using a lid, moist towel or a fire extinguisher. Never use water!
  • Do not leave clothing or inflammable objects too close to panel heaters.
  • Only use electric appliances that have been CE-approved or have similar approval. Please do not use mobile electric heaters.
  • Always remember to unplug kettles and percolators after use.

How to act in case of fire

Call 110 to report fire

  1. Your course of action can save lives in case of fire.
  2. Take notice of where the fire is and what is on fire.
  3. Warn other residents by shouting BRANN / FIRE.
  4. If possible, try to put out or limit the fire by using available fire-fighting equipment.
  5. If the area starts filling up with smoke, it is best to crawl along the floor, because smoke fills a room from the top down.
  6. All exits are marked and all residents should make sure they know where all emergency exits are.
  7. If you are leaving a building or room on fire, make sure you close all doors and windows.

The fire doors must be closed at all times. It is not allowed to disconnect the pumps on some of the doors.

Everyone must make themselves familiar with fire-fighting equipment and emergency exits.
