Student life in Bodø

Bodø is a good place to be for students. You can get involved in various student unions, events initiated by Studentinord and numerous cultural and social happenings that take place in the city throughout the academic year.

On your spare time

If you like to borrow a bike, skis, fishing gear and other sports- or outdoor equipment, you may rent for free at Skattkammeret near campus or at BUA in Bodø city center.

Studentinord also have a cabin that students may rent. The Student Cabin is located in idyllic surroundings in Vågan, not far from campus. Studentinord is co-owner of the sports center Mørkvedhallen SA. This allows the students' sports club BOSI to use the sports center.

Your first semester

It is in the first semester that you lay the foundation for a happy and rewarding time as a student. It is in the first semester you can find friends for life. It is during the first semester you learn the dos and don'ts in campus life, and it is during the first semester that you start storing the many good memories that you will keep for the rest of your life.

Studentinord works to give you the best start possible during your first semester. It is all about giving new students the chance to get to know their class mates, and participate in the social and academic activities taking place both on and off campus. Put simply: get involved in The Student Life.

Get to know the Student Host

Because we believe the first semester is so incredibly important, we have our very own Student Host in Bodø. The Student Host helps new students to find their way around the campus, both academically and socially.

If you have questions about who is who at campus, how you can join a student association, or questions related to your study situation - you are most welcome to get in touch.

The university city Bodø

Bodø is the second largets city in Northern Norway with 55000 inhabitants. Located by the sea the city is surrounded by beautiful coves and beaches. In August, when the academic year begins, you can enjoy warm days and the soft light of the evening sun until late at night.

We are proud of our city and the opportunites it gives. Activities like diving, canoeing, sailing, kiting and trekking are popular. You should also see the spectacular Saltstraumen, the world's strongest maelstrom. We also recommend the idyllic Island of Kjerringøy, where several movies based on the famous (and infamous) North-Norwegian author Knut Hamsun's novels have been shot.

Bodø is a great sports city with elite clubs in football and handball, and a whole lot of options for sports on a recreational level. Through the music festivals Parkenfestivalen (held the first weekend of the Autumn semester!) and Musikkfestuka, and the local music clubs Bodø has gained reputation as a vibrant music city.

Students looking for a part time job have good opportunities. More than 30 public administrative bodies and businesses have their main office in Bodø, and 450 new jobs are created every year.  Nord University, the local enterprise and the city administration strive to develop Bodø as an attractive city for students.
