IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT CLEANING
Cleaning Information
Shared Kitchens
- Always use baking paper in the oven, and remember to replace it when it starts to burn.
- Spices, oils, and food must not be stored on kitchen counters or tables.
- Keep your refrigerator organized. Throw away old food and clean up spills.
- Empty the trash when it is full. Follow the waste sorting guidelines.
- Drying racks must not be placed in kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, or other common areas.
Studentinord’s cleaning staff carry out kitchen inspections on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 09:00. Written feedback will be posted on the notice board located in all shared kitchens.
On these same days, a cleaning company also cleans the floors in kitchens, hallways, and shared toilets. If you place chairs on tables and remove items from the floor, it makes the cleaners’ work easier (they are not allowed to move belongings) and results in better cleaning. Rugs outside doors in hallways are not permitted, nor are drying racks or similar items.
Each week, the cleaning department also performs periodic cleaning tasks in the kitchen, with a new task every week. This helps maintain and extend the lifespan of the facilities.
Each week, two to three residents together will be assigned responsibility for specific tasks. If you are absent during your assigned week, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another resident and inform your partner(s).
To ensure a pleasant living environment for everyone, all residents are expected to contribute. Everyone is expected to maintain general cleanliness throughout the week, even though there is a rotating responsibility schedule.
Weekly Assigned Tasks:
- Clean and wipe the kitchen counter. It must be free of crumbs and grease.
- Clean the sink. No food residue should remain.
- Empty the trash, and keep trash bins and cabinets clean. Take trash directly outside and do not leave it in hallways or by doors.
- Clean the stove inside, on top, and outside. Also clean the oven door. Remove burnt food residue.
- Scrub baking trays and oven racks to remove burnt food residue.
- Clean the stovetop and the wall behind it.
- Wipe down kitchen cabinet fronts and refrigerators.
- Clean the microwave ovens.
- Collect and return cloths in the student cleaning closet located in the basement of both buildings.
- Return bottles and cans for recycling. Deposits not handled by residents will be removed by Studentinord.
- Sweep or mop the kitchen floor to remove crumbs and spills from cooking and similar activities.
Information About Shared Kitchen Equipment
All shared kitchens are equipped with basic items needed for everyday use. If you want additional equipment, you must provide it yourself. Kitchens are checked and restocked with missing equipment every summer. In January, cutting boards, pots, and frying pans are inspected and replaced if necessary. Missing, lost, or broken equipment will not otherwise be replaced during the year.
It may be useful to speak with neighbors or other kitchens if you are missing equipment, as kitchen items tend to end up in different places.
Cleaning Equipment
At the start of the academic year in August, a starter kit with cleaning supplies is placed in each shared kitchen. After this, residents are responsible for purchasing additional supplies themselves.
The kit contains:
- Dish soap
- Dishwasher tablets
- Dish brush
- Sponges
- Hand soap
- Scraper
- Steel wool
- Kitchen towels
- Cleaning cloths
Please remember that kitchen towels and cleaning cloths must be collected and returned to the student laundry room located in the basement of both buildings. The cleaning department washes them, but they cannot be cleaned properly if they are left in the kitchen. In the student laundry room, you will also find trash bags for shared kitchens and a step ladder if needed.
Private Room / Apartment
Cleaning of your own room or apartment is the responsibility of each resident, and you must provide your own cleaning equipment.
Moving In
When you move in, you must inspect the housing unit carefully. If you discover major faults, damages, or other issues, you must create a report in the app. Describe the issue and attach photos if possible. This will be stored as documentation for both you as the tenant and us as the landlord. If you move into a furnished room, the bed should include a mattress topper and a mattress protector sheet.
Internal Housing Transfer
If you are changing housing units internally, you must book a pre-inspection through the app. The inspection will take place as close to the moving date as possible, so book well in advance. Before the inspection, you must clean as thoroughly as possible. These inspections are carried out to detect and prevent the spread of pests. You will not receive access to the new housing unit until the pre-inspection has been completed. If the inspection is approved, you will gain access to the new unit. If the cleaning is insufficient, you must arrange a move-out inspection with the inspector or through the app. This inspection will take place after you move out of the old unit. If pests such as bedbugs are discovered, measures will be taken before you are allowed to move to a new unit.
Moving Out
When moving out of Studentinord housing, you must book a move-out inspection. The inspection should take place as close to the move-out date as possible. Keep in mind that many residents move out during Christmas and summer, so book early.
This is done through the app.
If you leave the housing unit without completing a move-out inspection and the cleaning is not satisfactory, you will be charged for the time required for cleaning. See the price list and fees.
If your inspection is not approved and you still choose not to correct the issues, the same rules apply as for not booking an inspection.
If your inspection is approved, you may leave the housing unit with peace of mind.
Cleaning Checklist Before Moving Out:
- Dust lamps and shelves, and remove stains
- Clean the inside and outside of wardrobes, including the top of the wardrobe
- Wash walls, doors, door frames, windows, and window frames
- Wipe down and vacuum furniture and beds
- Scrub bathroom tiles and walls thoroughly
- Clean sinks and toilets thoroughly
- Clean mirrors
- Clean and organize the kitchen, appliances, and equipment. Kitchen cabinets assigned to you must be cleaned thoroughly. The kitchen fan and filter must also be cleaned.
- Empty the refrigerator and freezer of your food
- Wash floors and baseboards
- If you have a storage room, it must also be emptied and cleaned
Cleaning Information / Rules for the Shared Lounge on the 7th Floor in Building 18
If you use or rent the shared lounge, you must clean it after use. We recommend taking pictures of the lounge before use if it has not been cleaned prior to your rental. The person booking the shared area is responsible for ensuring that the rules are followed and that the room is completely cleaned and tidied no later than 12:00 noon the following day. If the lounge is not cleaned by 12:00, you will be charged for the time required for cleaning. Failure to comply may result in losing the right to book shared areas. You will find mops and cloths in the student laundry room for cleaning the lounge after use.
- Quiet hours begin at 24:00 on weekends and 23:00 on weekdays.
- To have exclusive use of the shared lounge during the booking period, there must be at least 10 people present. If there are fewer than 10 people, all residents in the building may use the area.
- Those booking the shared lounge are responsible for cleaning and tidying it.
- Trash must be removed before leaving the room, and cleaning must be completed by 12:00 noon the following day. Hallways, shared toilets, and elevators must also be cleaned if necessary.
- All furniture and equipment used must be cleaned and returned to their original place after use. The student who booked the shared area is responsible for ensuring it looks the same as in the photos when leaving.
- All reservations must be made through the “Reddel” app. You may book the room once per month.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Internet
All student homes have Wifi with gigabit line 1000/1000. After you have moved in you need to register at this page to get a password for your Wifi network. You will be asked to provide a MAC address, which can be found at the internet central (home gateway) inside your home.
After your registration, you will receive an SMS from our internet provider Signal with username and password - within one working day.
Please note! The text message is written in Norwegian, but look for: "Altibox####" - which is the name of your Wifi, and "passord: ****" - which is your password.
Please call Signal customer service on +47 7543 05 00 if you experience any problems. If Signal can’t help you, you can contact the Housing office.
Laundry
When you move in you will get a laundry chip that can be used in the shared laundry. Short-term rentals longer than 14 days receive a laundry chip; otherwise, they can get one if they come to the front desk. The laundry is available between 8am and 10pm.
You will also receive username and password to a portal where you can reserve washing machines and transfer money to your laundry account.
TIP: It is a good idea to set an alarm on your phone a few minutes before your laundry is done. This way, you can avoid unnecessary queues at the washing machines. If you're there when your laundry finishes, the next user won't have to empty the machine for you, and you'll have full control over your clothes.
To use a washing machine costs from 15 kr per wash. To use a tumble dryer costs 10kr. The amount is withdrawn from your laundry account every time you start a washing machine or dryer.
If you should lose your laundry chip it is important to notify us so that we can block the chip and prepare a new one.
A reservation is valid until 15 minutes after the reserved time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the reserved time, other tenants may use the washing machine. It is only the washing machines that can be booked, not the tumble dryers.
You can also book a washing machine directly in the laundry, or use washing machines that are available in the laundry without booking.
TIP: Tick off for «forbli innlogget» (stay logged in) and the system will remember you next time. You can get SMS notifications to remind you of a booking, or when a weashing machine or tumble dryer programme is finished. SMS notifications can be activated in the laundry or in the web portal. The service is for free.
USE A TUMBLE DRYER
A regular laundry contains 2-3 liters of water. This means that if you hang the laundry to dry in the apartment, without venting well, this can cause mites and bacteria. We recommend using a dryer as long as it is possible.
If you have no other option than to hang the laundry inside your home, it is important that you ventilate well.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A PARTY
If you wish to invite someone to a party in a common area, you must clear this with the other residents in advance.
Show consideration and respect for others belongings, kitchen cabinets and refrigerators.
Remember that there are noise restrictions in the building after 11 p.m. on weekdays, and after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The common area must be tidied and cleaned no later than 12 noon on the following day, and don`t forget to clean the floor as well. The resident who invites people to the party is responsible for the cleaning.

TALK TO YOUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THE SOCIAL LIFE AT THE STUDENT HOME
One of the students at your housing facility is elected as a representative for the shared kitchen, the floor or the building. The representative work for a good social environment, and can initiative various social events and activities. The representative can also bring up cases regarding the social life at the student home with Studentinord.
You should find posters with contact info to your housing representative at the student home. If not, or if you have questions regarding this arrangement, you can contact Studentinord at bomiljo@studentinord.no.
